Seaventure

The 1990-built MS Seaventure cruise ship was originally built as the “Frontier Spirit”, but spent a lot of her life as the “MS Bremen” for Hapag-Lloyd between 1993-2020. Originally catering to 180 passengers, the ship’s maximum capacity was reduced to just 139 passengers for Antarctica expeditions as part of her 2021 redesign, creating a more spacious yet intimate environment for guests.

The boat’s hull is ice-classed “1A Super”—the highest ice class awarded to passenger vessels—so she’s perfectly suited to safely exploring the challenging polar waters, and her state-of-the-art stabilizing system ensures comfort in open water—a good job too as all her Antarctic voyages are roundtrips from Ushuaia via the notorious Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. Her speedy average cruising speed of 13.5 knots also means guests benefit from less time at sea and more time exploring.

Social Areas

The redesign also saw the introduction of a host of new amenities. There’s now a sauna, a fitness center, and a custom-built Citizen Science lab. There is more storage space too, allowing the ship to carry more equipment so that more guests can participate in adventure activities like kayaking and camping than ever before.

The common areas were made larger too and have been beautifully appointed, and the ship now features two kitchens, including one on the Lido deck for al fresco dining when the weather permits.

The ship features a variety of deck spaces to soak up the glorious landscape from every angle and take uninterrupted photos. But even when you step inside, Seaventure’s wide expanse of windows in every social area mean you won’t miss any of the jaw-dropping scenery—a real highlight. The wrap-around windows in the Panorama Lounge in particular make for a fantastic place to defrost after a busy day exploring.

The ship’s dining options include the Restaurant (main dining room for open-seating breakfast and lunch) and the aforementioned casual Lido Grill (buffet-style restaurant). Again, the large picture windows in the dining room mean you can enjoy spectacular Antarctic views whilst you sip a glass of the included wines and beers and savor the world-class fare.

The ship additionally has a Bar in the Club Lounge, and stunning swimming pool on her Sun Deck, the perfect spots for unwinding after excursions and connecting with fellow passengers and crew.

Convenience

Every voyage has an English-speaking doctor experienced in Emergency medicine. Medical services are available 24 hours a day as the ship has a Medical Clinic, stocked with a wide range of common basic medications, including seasickness medication, and capable of supporting a wide range of medical issues.

The dedicated Passenger Service Manager on board will ensure the utmost hospitality standards are achieved throughout your voyage, and you’ll also be accompanied on your expedition by the Voyage Photographer who will expertly capture both you and the wildlife in action for posterity.

All passenger cabins and public areas offer Wi-Fi Internet access as the ship features a Starlink wireless network, accessible from your personal computer or smartphone from virtually anywhere on board. There are also public computers available in the ship Library which may be used for email and Internet (but not for uploading photos.) 500 free MB of data is included in the cost of your voyage. Additional data packages can be purchased from the hotel manager on board.

Perhaps best of all, every voyage on the Seaventure includes two complimentary nights in Ushuaia at the Arakur Resort & Spa before your cruise. Located in a privileged environment, on a natural balcony 800 feet above sea level inside the Cerro Alarkén Nature Reserve, Arakur is much more than a luxury hotel. Surrounded by stunning panoramic views, native forests, natural terraces and green areas harmoniously integrated into the environment, it’s an experience that will be forever etched in your memory.

Accommodations

The Seaventure has a total of 82 outside cabins in 5 categories, spread out across the top 5 of the ship’s 7 decks. The Porthole staterooms (Deck 3) and Window Staterooms (Decks 4 & 5) are all 17.5 m2 and feature 2 round-shaped portholes or rounded panoramic windows respectively. The 16 larger (20.8 m2) Veranda Staterooms on Deck 6 and two oversized (30.8 m2) Owner’s Suites on Deck 7 feature sitting areas, step-out balconies, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Staterooms’ standard amenities include flat HDTV with infotainment system (Internet, on-demand movies), individual air conditioning, complimentary minibar (soft drinks), electronic safe box (in the closet), en-suite bathroom, premium bedding, and plush bathrobes.

Most cabins come with a double bed, but are convertible to twin beds upon request prior to departure, but 5 of the Window Staterooms on Deck 4 feature an additional single bed and are categorized as Triple Staterooms—which are ideal for families.

There are two elevators that service all floors, but due to weather and sea conditions these may not be operational at all times.

Exciting Excursions

The Seaventure offers authentic and deeply engaging Antarctic voyages as the crew firmly believe you can’t fully appreciate the White Continent without immersing yourself in it. So, while they take great pride in the beauty and comfort of the ship, the amenity they’re most proud of delivering better than anyone isn’t the one on board, but off it.

Twice-daily excursions into the wildlife-rich waters and onto the continent itself will typically have you in full explorer mode for six hours a day. The expedition team, with an average of 14 years experience, is among the most knowledgeable and skilled in seeking out the best that Antarctica has to offer, and will accompany you on all excursions.

The ship has its own fleet of 14 Zodiacs—rigid-hulled motorized high-speed boats used for shoreside cruising and landings in shallow coastal areas. Nordic walking sticks, kayaks, camping equipment, and snorkeling gear are also on hand for excursions where permitted, and a doctor will always accompany passengers on all shore landings.
