Explore the Antarctica Peninsula

Welcome to Ushuaia. Upon arrival at Ushuaia Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for some rest. Afterwards, you can explore this unique city, known as the “End of the World,” and experience its extraordinary charm as the gateway to Antarctica.

Our complimentary Air2Sea transfer will be available from Ushuaia Airport (USH). Pre-reserved is required. Please leave some time between flight arrival and shuttle bus departure. If you will travel from other places or arrive earlier, your hotel room will be available for check-in starting from 3pm.

Enjoy your morning at Ushuaia. Before noon, you will be transferred to the port to embark on Seaventure and begin your unforgettable expedition.

After embarkation and a safety briefing, settle into your cabin and take in the first breathtaking views.

During the two days crossing the Drake Passage, you will be fully engaged in preparing for the great Antarctic adventure. Expedition team members will hold briefings and provide detailed guidance on zodiac boat operations, while also instructing on biosecurity cleaning of clothing and boots to ensure every step meets environmental standards.

Onboard lectures will immerse you in the world of Antarctic ecology, revealing fascinating insights into wildlife and the mysteries of the Southern Ocean. Every moment on deck is thrilling, with seabirds increasingly dancing around the stern and sometimes flying right past you as you stroll. You can also browse polar stories in the onboard polar library or go for a jog in the gym, enjoying this relaxing time at sea. Most exciting of all is the gradual approach to the Antarctic continent, fueling endless curiosity and anticipation for the unknown.

Finally, we set foot on the Antarctic Peninsula. In this frigid world south of 60°S, islands and the continent are blanketed in ice and snow, with floating ice glistening in shades of blue and white under the sun, while penguins and seals dot the landscape. Over the next four days, we will embark on an immersive exploration that feels like stepping into a documentary film. In this “mountains of geese, seas of geese” alien-like world, every landing and cruise is filled with surprises and the unknown.

We will have the opportunity to visit some of the following sites, all depends on the weather & sea conditions as well as the captain and expedition leader’s decision:

Cierva Cove: A tranquil bay at the northern end of Hughes Bay, surrounded by towering glaciers. Ice cliffs frequently calve into the sea, creating awe-inspiring waves. During Zodiac cruises, you may spot leopard seals gliding among the ice or curious minke whales approaching.

Petermann Island: Nestled among mountains and glaciers, the island presents a dreamlike scene of icy blue and snowy white. Mixed colonies of Adélie and Gentoo penguins inhabit the island, and seals can often be seen lounging on the ice. A simple wooden cross stands as a memorial to pioneers who explored this area.

Neko Harbour: Named after the whaling ship “Neko” from the early 20th century. From the hillside, you can overlook spectacular glaciers and penguin breeding grounds. On the beach, Weddell and fur seals bask in the sun, while occasional ice calving echoes through the valley.

Brown Station: An Argentine summer research station located at the foot of the mountains in Paradise Bay. Climb the hillside to enjoy panoramic views of the bay surrounded by snowy peaks. The orange research buildings and nearby penguin colonies create a striking contrast against the white landscape, making it a dream destination for photographers.

Goudier Island (Port Lockroy): A small island rich in history, home to the British historic base and the Port Lockroy museum, as well as the world’s southernmost penguin post office. Visitors can send a postcard from Antarctica beside the penguin colonies, leaving a unique memento of this journey.

The South Shetland Islands, located between 61°S and 63°S, are renowned for their dramatic natural landscapes, including massive glaciers, volcanic formations, and rich marine ecosystems. They are also important habitats for penguins, seals, and a variety of seabirds, while the surrounding waters are often visited by humpback whales and Antarctic minke whales.

We will visit Great Wall Station, established in 1985, which marks the beginning of China’s scientific research in Antarctica and represents a milestone in China’s integration into international polar research collaboration. Great Wall Station not only showcases China’s technical capabilities in Antarctic science but also symbolizes its significant role in global polar research.

As the final two days at sea unfold, a gentle melancholy may settle in, for the time to bid farewell to Antarctica approaches. Yet under the soft glow of the setting sun, as the landscape fades into the horizon, you can savor nature at its most exquisite, and feel a serene calm wash over you. Perhaps a shy whale will appear in the distance, or playful orcas will leap joyfully through the icy waters, offering a last glimpse of the wild magic of this continent.

The expedition team will continue to share captivating lectures, or you may simply choose to bask in the tranquil stillness of this remote polar realm. Antarctica is a land of wonder, drawing countless visitors year after year, yet this journey as well as our journey, will remain an unforgettable, singular experience, etched forever in memory.

Today we disembark in Ushuaia, saying farewell to the expedition team, fellow travelers, and the Seaventure, marking the end of this once-in-a-lifetime journey.
