Built in 2019 and named in honor of the company’s founder, the Greg Mortimer is designed for family-friendly expeditions to the most remote locations. She thereby provides the perfect base camp for Antarctic adventures at the outer limits of human exploration. There are 76 comfortable suites (with separate lounge areas) and cabins in eight different categories aboard your Greg Mortimer Antarctica cruise; all have a view of the ocean and all are spaciously proportioned, ranging in size from 180 – 385 square feet. Eighty percent have their own private balcony where you can see the world go by and breathe in the sea air. All come with private bathrooms, adequate storage, twin or double bed configurations, and international power outlets. All are serviced daily.

Life On Board
Excellent, hearty meals, prepared by the onboard chefs and featuring a variety of menus and courses, are served in the open-seating dining area, as well as delicious morning/afternoon teas. Relax with a glass of house wine, beer, or a soft drink, included with dinner after a long day of icy adventures, and be sure join your Captain and expedition team for the Captain’s Welcome and Farewell drinks, with complimentary beverages and cocktail aperitifs, followed by a three-course dinner.
In addition to the restaurant, the MV Greg Mortimer features a modern lecture lounge equipped with the latest technology. Here, you can enjoy engaging and educational presentations covering topics such as history and culture, biology and climate change, delivered by naturalists and other experts from the area, who will be on hand to share their knowledge and skills with you along your journey.
There are multiple observation areas, including the hydraulic viewing platforms, which fold out for unobstructed views of passing marine life and seabirds. The viewing lounge on Deck 7 has wildlife guides, books, and binoculars, and in the ship’s library, you can choose from a range of informative nonfiction titles, wildlife guidebooks, travel journals, novels and a selection of children’s books and board games.
You’re bound to enjoy the wellness centre with its sauna and massage facility. There is also a gym, and you’ll find two Jacuzzis on the highest outdoor deck with amazing views of the world going by. The bars and lounges on board are inviting places to gather with fellow passengers and share stories of your day; they all have floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views and allowing you to keep an eye out for wildlife and watch the sun go down.
The ship also features a well-stocked medical clinic designed for use in remote areas, staffed by a professional medical team who can give immediate treatment.
Outdoor Activities
The mudroom is your launchpad for all shore excursions and activities; you will have access to lockers and rapid drying areas for dry suits and wetsuits, you can leave your outer jackets and pants here, as well as store your boots between trips. There are four sea-level launching platforms for fast and efficient access to and from the Zodiacs; these sturdy crafts will play an integral role in your expedition experience, making the transition from ship to sea or shore as smooth as possible.
For active travellers, several additional activities are offered on the Greg Mortimer itinerary to allow you to see more of the environment. From kayaking and scuba diving, polar snorkelling to snowshoeing, climbing and ski touring, it’s these optional activities that will often leave the biggest impression on your trip and in your expedition experience.

An AIPP Grand Master of Photography, a Fellow and an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and a Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography, Peter has been involved in photographic magazine publishing for over 30 years. He establishing his own title, Australia’s Better Photography Magazine, in 1995 and subsequently won the 1996 and 1998 AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year awards.
He was the author of the Lonely Planet’s Guide to Landscape Photography and his photography has recently featured on the cover of the Lonely Planet’s guide to Australia, in articles in the Qantas in flight magazine, and in an Apple television commercial. His work has been published and exhibited internationally (USA, UK, Japan, Germany, Greece, India, New Zealand and Australia) so you are sure to pick up some expert tips!
