Northern Lights Explorer
Highlights
- Trek Norway’s Senja and Lofoten fjords, where Arctic lights glow and Norse legends echo through towering peaks and crisp skies.
- Set foot on remote Jan Mayen to see Beerenberg, Earth’s northernmost active volcano, and spot whales off its rugged shores.
- Venture into East Greenland’s fjords, where drifting ice, roaming musk oxen, and enduring Inuit culture define the Arctic wilds.
Embark on an extraordinary 18-day Arctic journey that spans the breathtaking diversity of the North: from Norway’s myth-laden coast and its dramatic fjords, to the icy wilderness of Jan Mayen and the seldom-visited fjords of East Greenland, before culminating along Iceland’s awe-inspiring Westfjords and Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This is a true explorer’s voyage—one that blends human history, geological wonder, and thrilling wildlife encounters.
Departing in the shoulder season between late summer and early autumn, this voyage aligns perfectly with the ethereal glow of the Northern Lights, peak whale migration, and the vivid colours of Arctic tundra in transition. It’s a time when puffins prepare for their departure, reindeer graze freely, and Greenland’s glaciers calve colossal icebergs into glassy fjords.
From leisurely cultural walks through Viking museums and fishing hamlets to heart-pounding summit hikes above glacier-fed valleys, your daily adventures will be as varied as the landscapes. Off the ship, Zodiac excursions bring you face-to-face with massive ice cliffs, reclusive seals, and perhaps even polar bears on the hunt. On board, relax with panoramic views, expert-led lectures, and camaraderie with fellow explorers.
Crossing into remote realms few have ventured—like Jan Mayen, with its 2,277-metre active volcano rising from the sea, and Ittoqqortoormiit, one of Greenland’s most isolated Inuit villages—you’ll gain a profound appreciation for the resilience of life and landscape in the High Arctic. And whether you’re scaling coastal ridges in Iceland or standing at the bow in the midst of a drifting iceberg field, the emotion is the same: awe, humility, and a deep sense of accomplishment.

Sea kayaking holidays in the humbling wilderness of Antarctica, the Arctic, and some of the world’s most biodiverse regions, are guaranteed to stir your soul. Paddle around brash ice and near icebergs of all shapes and sizes, absorbing the majestic scenery as it unfolds before you.
This Kayaking Program was created by kayakers for kayakers! Our program style offers the chance to develop and enhance your skills and to connect with our expert guides and your fellow Expeditioners. Participating with the small group through your voyage will minimize wasted time with briefings and equipment tryouts and maximize time on the water.
All of our Expert Guides are professional kayak guides, who have led trips around the world, specialize in the Polar Regions and have been chosen for their passion for the sport. Kayaking is one of the best ways to access and intimately explore the beautiful coastlines we visit and make the most of your time in the wild and remote destinations we visit. You have the option to discuss with the guides what you want out of your trip and they will help with recommendations on when to paddle, when to go ashore and when it’s possible to do both in one outing.
Equipment provided: Kayak booties and dry suits. If you prefer to bring your own dry suit for this activity, please contact our Activity Specialist to discuss the suitability of your equipment.
