West Greenland Adventure
Highlights
- Follow the iceberg highway from Ilulissat’s UNESCO Icefjord to Disko’s volcanic shores and Eternity Fjord’s soaring walls.
- Encounter Greenland’s cultural tapestry—Inuit heritage, vivid coastal towns, and the remarkably preserved Norse ruins of Hvalsey.
- Explore by Zodiac, hikes, and cruises through whale-rich bays, wildflower tundra, and fjords like Prince Christian Sound and Tasermiut.
Set out from Iceland on a rare west-to-east circumnavigation of Greenland’s most iconic coasts—a journey that threads together the country’s cultural heartlands, iceberg-chiseled landscapes, and remote fjords once visited by Inuit hunters and Norse settlers. From the colorful streets of Nuuk and Sisimiut to the UNESCO-recognized Icefjord at Ilulissat, this itinerary weaves through places that hold deep significance in Greenlandic heritage and Arctic exploration history. Each destination reveals a different facet of the Arctic: towering basalt mountains on Disko Island, sculptural ice in Eternity Fjord, eagle-filled skies over Paamiut, and the haunting medieval stonework of Hvalsey Church.
Sailing during the high-Arctic summer grants travelers long daylight hours, milder temperatures, and peak seasonal wildlife. This is the time when whales linger in the nutrient-rich bays, wildflowers sweep across tundra valleys, and the midnight sun paints glaciers and icebergs in gold. As spring melt accelerates, enormous bergs drift through Prince Christian Sound and carve new pathways into fjords few ever witness. Opportunities for Zodiac cruising, coastal hikes, cultural visits, and photography abound, making each day an immersive blend of exploration and discovery.
On board, engaging lectures and casual conversations with naturalists deepen your understanding of Greenland’s geology, wildlife, and Inuit traditions, while time spent on deck scanning for seabirds and whales fosters a sense of connection to this vast northern wilderness. Ashore, you may tread along ancient cultural sites, hike to sweeping viewpoints, and listen for the thunder of calving ice that echoes between granite walls—moments that invite awe and reflection in equal measure.
This voyage is both a personal and geographical achievement: sailing inside the Arctic Circle, navigating world-famous fjords, and venturing into regions accessible only to true expedition travelers. Exp...
