West Greenland Adventure

Welcome to Reykjavik. You will be greeted by our dedicated staffs when you walk out the Arrival Hall at Keflavik Airport. A group transfer will take you to the hotel in your pre-cruise package for rest.

Our complimentary Air2Sea transfer will be available from Keflavik Airport (REK) from 12pm to 6pm on a 2-hour frequency (12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm). Pre-reserved is required. Please leave some time between flight arrival and shuttle bus departure.

If you will travel from other places or arrive earlier, your hotel room will be available for check-in starting from 3pm.

In the morning, transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. This northernmost capital city sits along the western coast and serves as Greenland’s political, economic, and cultural hub. It is also the gateway to your Arctic adventure.

In the afternoon, transfer to the pier and embark Seaventure. You will be warmed welcome by our Expedition Team and crew when you step aboard. Settle into your cabin, and feel the anticipation before setting sail. Your extraordinary voyage to the western Greenland, the home of icebergs, will start.

Wake up inside the Arctic Circle. Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest town, lies at latitude 63° North. It is known for its historic blue church, whose doorway is built from whale bone, and for its open-air museum featuring reconstructed Inuit turf houses. The town calls itself “rugged, authentic, and remote.” Explore lively streets, hike into surrounding mountains, and enjoy sweeping views of majestic peaks and rocky ridges.

Ilulissat, the famous “Birthplace of Icebergs,” is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a destination that countless travelers consider a must-see. The nearby Ilulissat Icefjord produces massive icebergs throughout the year, which drift into Disko Bay to create an eternal spectacle of frozen giants. Walk along wooden boardwalks to hilltop viewpoints, where a panorama of icebergs stretches out like a frozen ocean. Many call this the true kingdom of icebergs, and for good reason.

Venture into the volcanic landscapes of Disko Bay, where Ilulissat Icefjord delivers monumental ice blocks into the sea, forming dramatic icebergs and floating floes. Cruise the hidden waterways by Zodiac, and if luck is with you, encounter whales resting in their summer sanctuary. Hike across black-sand beaches and basalt mountains, enjoy sweeping views of high plateaus and fjords, and discover traces of Inuit heritage. Disko Island is a stage where Greenland’s geology and culture come vividly alive.

One of Greenland’s most stunning fjords, Eternity Fjord has been described by explorers as “breathtaking” and “awe-inspiring.” Shaped by millennia of glacial erosion, its deep waterways are flanked by towering cliffs and snowcapped peaks. Smaller glaciers feed the fjord, releasing magnificent icebergs that float like natural sculptures. Occasionally, the thunderous crack of calving ice echoes across the valley, breaking the silence and heightening the sense of wonder. This is a perfect setting for birdwatching, exploring Arctic wildlife, and simply absorbing the grandeur of nature.

Paamiut is a picturesque town on Greenland’s southwest coast, known for its abundant wildlife and cultural history. It is the best place in Greenland to see white-tailed eagles. Colorful houses tell stories of whaling and the fur trade, while scenic trails lead to remote and untouched landscapes.

Today we will visit Hvalsey in the morning. Hvalsey is home to the best-preserved Norse ruins in Greenland. The 14th-century Hvalsey Church remains an important symbol of Viking presence in the Americas, also famous as a UNESCO site. Surrounding fjords and meadows create a striking contrast against the Arctic seascape.

Afternoon we will arrive at Qaqortoq, the largest town in South Greenland and one of the most picturesque in the Arctic. Colorful, cultured, and full of Arctic charm, Qaqortoq is nestled among rolling hills and overlooking a sheltered bay, the town is adorned with vividly painted houses and outdoor stone sculptures created by local artists.

As temperatures rise in spring and summer, massive icebergs calve from the ice sheet and drift into Prince Christian Sound. Here, dramatic glaciers, snowcapped peaks, and deep-blue waters weave together into a corridor of stone and ice. The sea surface is scattered with icebergs of every shape and size, resembling a flowing river of snow.

Weather permitting, the voyage continues into Tasermiut Fjord, often called the “Patagonia of the Arctic,” where a Greenland landing may be possible.

Located in southeast Greenland, Skjoldungen is surrounded by fjords and cloaked in tundra alive with Arctic wildflowers during summer. The serene atmosphere here captures the untouched spirit of East Greenland. It is a haven for polar botanists and a habitat for ringed seals. The island’s name comes from the descendants of King Skjold from Danish legend. Archaeological traces of the ancient Thule culture still remain, offering a glimpse into the lives of early Arctic inhabitants.

If weather permitted, we would arrange a Zodiac cruising among gleaming icebergs and followed by a landing to explore the island.

We will spend a full day at sea as the ship cross the Denmark Strait. Under the glow of the midnight sun, the horizon never darkens. Enjoy a leisurely day at sea as you sail toward Iceland. Attend enrichment lectures by the expedition team, join photography workshops, or simply relax on deck scanning for seabirds and whales that often accompany the ship through northern waters.

This morning, the Seaventure arrives in Reykjavik. After enjoying a final breakfast on board, take a moment to say farewell to your expedition team, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences and breathtaking landscapes you have encountered over the past days.
