Sailing round-trip from Ushuaia, you’ll follow in the wake of legendary explorers as you navigate the Beagle Channel and the Drake Passage, greeted by albatrosses, petrels, and perhaps breaching whales along the way. Crossing the Antarctic Convergence, you enter a world where wildlife thrives—Adélie penguins, fur seals, and orcas among the highlights.
Deep within the Antarctic wilderness, you’ll step ashore at historic research bases on Horseshoe and Stonington Islands, wander beneath the crimson cliffs of Red Rock Ridge, and marvel at the glacial majesty of Pourquoi Pas Island. Threading through dramatic channels like The Gullet, each moment immerses you deeper into a realm of raw beauty and profound solitude.
This voyage is enriched by the Basecamp program, offering daily opportunities for adventure: Zodiac cruising, guided hikes, photography, and wildlife encounters. Alongside expert naturalists, you’ll gain new perspectives on the continent’s fragile ecosystems and its legacy of exploration.

Itineraries
The Deep South Basecamp experience offers you a myriad of ways to explore and enjoy the Antarctic region. This expedition allows you to (long) hike, snowshoe, kayak, and even camp out under the Southern Polar skies.
End of the world, start of a journey
Your voyage begins where the world drops off. Ushuaia, Argentina, reputed to be the southernmost city on the planet, is located on the far southern tip of South America. Starting in the afternoon, you embark from this small resort town on Tierra del Fuego, nicknamed “The End of the World,” and sail the mountain-fringed Beagle Channel for the remainder of the evening.
Path of the polar explorers
Through the Pendleton Strait
Marguerite Bay as a setting for activities
The Gullet and Detaille Island
Familiar seas, familiar friends
There and back again
Long Hikes:
Long walks in Antarctica are designed for small groups of up to 24 passengers, accompanied by at least two expedition staff with experience in this terrain. These walks offer an immersive experience in the pristine polar landscape, requiring participants to be prepared for up to three to four hours of hiking on semi-rough, rocky and snowy terrain with notable elevation changes. While the pace will be steady and manageable, the conditions can be demanding and change quickly. A good level of fitness and willingness to walk for extended periods are essential. The total duration will vary depending on site conditions and explore the untouched expanses of the Antarctic wilderness. For those who prefer not to join the long hikes, alternative activities or shore landings will be available during this time.
