I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to both the Arctic and Antarctica on several occasions, and I can tell you that no single trip is is ever the same, something different happens and every experience is unique.
My professional journey naturally progressed into polar travel after being based in Latin and South America. Since so many expeditions depart from places like Ushuaia and Punta Arenas in Chile, it was a logical step from selling destinations like Patagonia. What captivates me most is the natural beauty of the landscapes. They are like nowhere else I’ve been. The remoteness of the polar regions is what draws me in, particularly Antarctica, which, with no permanent population, feels like a real expedition. When you’re there, you’re truly at the mercy of the landscape.
I love working at Antarctica Cruises because we have an incredible team. We are primarily people who enjoy traveling, and it doesn’t feel like work. Everybody is self-motivated and very enthusiastic to share their knowledge with guests.
A Word To Explorers
Always try to seize a moment where you can get away from everyone else because those are the moments that stay with you.
Beyond the Deck
My favorite activity in the poles would have to be snorkeling in Antarctica. I’ve snorkeled on about 14 different occasions, being able to snorkel with different kinds of seals and penguins, but the highlight has been snorkeling with humpback and minke whales.
An Enduring Memory
Every trip has a unique moment, but if I had to choose one moment, the standout moment would be my last trip to Antarctica when I was part of the snorkeling team, and four humpbacks came within arms length. The last whale’s tail even hit the edge of my leg, which was quite scary but at the same time exhilarating. I’ll never forget that.
My Next Quest
I’ve been reading about Scott’s expedition to the South Pole, and there’s something about following in those footsteps that really gets to me. The Ross Sea is as remote as Antarctica gets, and knowing I’d be visiting the actual sites from those legendary expeditions, that’s the kind of journey that stays with you.
Don't Forget To
We’ve all traveled to these destinations and have great experience and knowledge. I advise guests to ask us as many questions as they need to, and we’re there to answer them.
